Howard Alexander B.Mus., B.Ed.

Howard Alexander is well known throughout the area and across many parts of Canada for his contributions to music.  Howard Alexander graduated from BCI in 1969. While at BCI Mr. Alexander was a Star of the Lions Club Music Festival, a player with the New Brock Players, a member of BCI’s bands and choirs, and an orchestral musician with the Kingston Symphony.  As a student, he also participated in the Sears Drama Festival and received Jr. and Sr. athletic letters.

After graduating from BCI Mr. Alexander attended Queen’s University where he earned degrees in   Music and in Education.  During his long and varied career Mr. Alexander was principal bassoonist with the Kingston, Newfoundland and Lethbridge Symphonies.  He was conductor of the Calgary Youth Singers and the Brockville Concert Band and he founded the Brockville Community Choir and the Riverside Singers.

A composer of over two hundred pieces for choir, band, orchestra and ensemble, Mr. Alexander was a commissioned composer for the Canadian Broadcast Corporation and the Toronto Chamber Winds as well as a composer of Chamber Opera.  As a music teacher he taught with the Lake Superior and Upper Canada District School Boards.

In the Brockville area Mr. Alexander has been widely recognized for his community contributions. He is an inductee in the Brockville and Area Performing Arts Hall of Fame, a past member of the Arts Task Force for the City of Brockville, a member of the Operatic Society and an advisor to the performance program at St. Lawrence College.
