Multi-Subject Instructional Period

MSIP is an initiative supporting student success at BCI.

Classes are reduced from 75 minutes to 60 minutes each. This creates a fifth period where students will work on instructional material provided by subject teachers. Students are guided by their MSIP teacher to plan their week carefully to enable them to complete their work in an efficient and focused manner.

Students have the option to move to other areas of the school if they can demonstrate an academic need. They may, for example, require the use of the library for independent research, or work with other students on a group project in a computer lab. MSIP facilitates this movement. Students need to plan their school week carefully, asking for permission to move at least one day in advance. In this manner, students learn the importance of carrying a planning tool and making informed choices about their own learning.

The MSIP period is instructional time, linked to the curriculum of all other classes a student will take. This means that MSIP attendance is not only mandatory, but of critical importance for credit granting purposes. Students who skip MSIP habitually place all their credits in jeopardy. MSIP attendance is monitored carefully from the beginning of the year.

At BCI, we look forward to working with parents, students and the community to constantly improve student learning, one student at a time.
