Brockville native Christine
Wilson joined the CBC in 1988 as Deputy Head of Variety Programming for CBC
Radio and ended her career with the national broadcaster in April 2014 as
Executive Director of Content. She was a
chief architect in the re-imaging of CBC as a modern public broadcaster and
oversaw the development of, and placement of, dozens of successful, new,
award-winning Canadian series, international co-productions and specials.
Outside her career with the CBC,
the Toronto-area resident advanced the cause of women’s issues through her work
serving on the executive of Women in Television and Film and Canadian Women in
Communication. She has served on the
boards of both the Toronto and Ottawa Rape Crisis Centres and the Ernestine
Shelter for Women & Children. She
also sings with the Toronto Choral Society.
“Christine is recognized as a
leader in her field and we are proud she is our inductee this year,” said
Judith Quick, chair of the Hall of Excellence Committee. “Her career is an
inspiration to young women everywhere who see themselves in leadership roles.”
Wilson attended BCI from 1973 to
1978. While a student, she was involved in school musicals and was a member of
the Reach for the Top team, BCI Debating Club, BCI Student Council and the BCI
Chamber Choir. In her graduating year, she served as both head girl and
valedictorian. She then went on to study
the social sciences at Carleton University earning a Bachelor of Arts in
1981. Since then, she has also completed
leadership and management programs at Queen’s University, the Niagara
Institute, the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto and the
Banff Television Executive Program.
