Michael Healey (Inducted 2004)
Michael attended BCI from 1977 to 1981. He was active in the Dramatic Arts Club, as well as participating in several productions of the Brockville Theatre Guild. In 1982, He moved to Toronto to study at the Ryerson Theatre School, in its acting program. Michael began writing for the stage soon after graduating from Ryerson.
In the summer of 1996, Michael's first play, called Kicked, was performed in Toronto. He toured that show across Canada and around the world. His work won the Dora Mavor Moore Award for best new play in 1998. His next play, The Drawer Boy, won the Dora and Chalmers Playwriting Awards, as well as the Governor General's Award for drama in 1999. The Drawer Boy has played across Canada and Internationally, and was the most produced play in the United States during the 2002-2003 season.
Michael is writer-in-residence at the Taragon Theatre in Toronto and continues to divide his time between writing for the theatre and acting.
