Brockville native Christine Wilson joined the CBC in 1988 as Deputy Head of Variety Programming for CBC Radio and ended her career with the national broadcaster in April 2014 as Executive Director of Content.  She was a chief architect in the re-imaging of CBC as a modern public broadcaster and oversaw the development of, and placement of, dozens of successful, new, award-winning Canadian series, international co-productions and specials.

Outside her career with the CBC, the Toronto-area resident advanced the cause of women’s issues through her work serving on the executive of Women in Television and Film and Canadian Women in Communication.  She has served on the boards of both the Toronto and Ottawa Rape Crisis Centres and the Ernestine Shelter for Women & Children.  She also sings with the Toronto Choral Society.

“Christine is recognized as a leader in her field and we are proud she is our inductee this year,” said Judith Quick, chair of the Hall of Excellence Committee. “Her career is an inspiration to young women everywhere who see themselves in leadership roles.”

Wilson attended BCI from 1973 to 1978. While a student, she was involved in school musicals and was a member of the Reach for the Top team, BCI Debating Club, BCI Student Council and the BCI Chamber Choir. In her graduating year, she served as both head girl and valedictorian.  She then went on to study the social sciences at Carleton University earning a Bachelor of Arts in 1981.  Since then, she has also completed leadership and management programs at Queen’s University, the Niagara Institute, the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto and the Banff Television Executive Program.
