Patrick J. Sheahan (Inducted 2003)
Patrick Sheahan attended BCI in the 1970’s and began his football career for the Red Rams as a quarterback. He led the junior team to a league championship and moved on to play at Concordia University. He made the transition to tight end and the offensive line and upon graduation in 1980, was signed as a free agent with the Canadian Football League’s Edmonton Eskimos.
Pat was a late cut from the Eskimos and returned to Montreal and began his coaching career with the Junior Concorde. He quickly joined the coaching staff at McGill University as assistant Head Coach, and in 1987, guided the Redmen to a Vanier Cup national championship. The following season Pat became head coach at Concordia University. In eleven seasons Pat led the Stingers to a 61-44-1 record, won two conference championships, an Atlantic Bowl championship and a Vanier Cup appearance in 1998. During his tenure, many Concordia graduates joined the ranks of professional football in both the CFL and the NFL. It was during this time at Concordia, when Pat, a qualified teacher, earned his Masters Degree in Education.
In 2000, Pat was appointed to one of the most prestigious university coaching jobs in the country, Head Football Coach at Queen’s University. In his first three years at Queen’s he turned the football program around, finishing second in the OUA, and had a quarterback, Tom Denison, named the Most Outstanding Player in the country. Pat has been named Coach of the Year three times, both in the Ontario-Quebec Conference and the Ontario University Athletics conference.
Throughout his career Pat has maintained yearly recruiting visits to BCI, been a guest speaker at the school’s athletic banquet and has graciously accommodated BCI football coaches as guests during university training camp.
